Top 4 NYC Designer Work Totes

top 4 nyc designer work totesI love bags. I would most likely forgo proper work attire, lunch, shoes, or jewelry if I knew I would be able to get another designer handbag. I don’t know whether it is the quality leather, expert craftsmanship, or the “feel” of the bag on my shoulder. Ha! I think I may even love handbags more than food!

But I digress. Now that I am working in Manhattan, I have seen an influx of beautiful handbags on the arms of the classiest NYC working women. One of the major purchases that I am looking to make in the next few months is a work tote. You see, in NYC, you must have a tote to carry all of the unnecessary things that a woman doesn’t need throughout the day. (Please note the sarcasm in that last sentence.) What we carry in these totes is not to be named. But it is essential that we carry every last item.

Let’s start from the top:

The OG by Lo & Sons: While they call this tote the overnight and gym bag, it is packed with compartments and enough style to be carried into work everyday. It is super lightweight and even has a side compartment for the extra change of shoes that all NYC women carry.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Jet Set Macbook Travel Tote: Oh how I love MK. I don’t know what it is about these bags that get me drooling in store windows. This tote is made of leather and can carry a 15in laptop among the other NYC working girl essentials.

Tory Burch Nylon Ella Tote: At  first I wasn’t taken by this tote design since it is nylon, but after seeing this tote on the arms of several women, I had to reconsider. The strap length, matched with the contours of the bag make it super easy to carry. The lower price point also does not hurt.

Le Pliage by Longchamp: I feel like every NYC woman has one of these at home. When I finally caved and asked for the details on this simple, origami inspired tote, I was excited to see the price point AND the accessibility at regular department stores.

Right now I am carrying a black leather Coach tote that was given to me by my Godmother. She used to be one of those stylish, NYC working women, but has since retired to a lovely home in Florida. Luckily, she has me, her bag obsessed God-daughter to give her working girl bags to. I couldn’t find the exact tote on the website, but it is similar to this one, but much less structured. I love my bag… but I am craving a change soon.

What type of bag do you carry to work? Designer & non-designer recommendations please!

I am a huge Longchamp fan. I have been using their bags since college. right now I go between my current Longchamp pliage, a navy Jcrew leather hobo bag and my Cole Haan bag. Cole Haan is another classic, solid quality bag like Longchamp.

    • I have never shopped at Cole Haan or JCrew, yet. And for bags! I never would have though to go to JCrew. I’ll be heading to the website to take a peek…maybe a black friday sale will work in my favor. 🙂

Have to say that I like your current bag best. But maybe that’s because I just need another to add to my Coach collection. All of my Coach bags were gifts as I don’t normally spend that much but I do love them so much!

    • Well Black Friday is almost here so maybe you can score a deal! I have fallen away from Coach lately and favored more MK bags…it all depends on the new styles/prints.

I LOVE all your choices. I think I’m going to point Santa to this post for my gifts 🙂 right now I have a coach tote bag from years ago that I love. I’ve had inexpensive tote bags here and there and the don’t cut it. A good bag is worth the investment.

    • That’s what I always say! I used to love NY&Co totes, but the straps would bust after a month or 2. When you buy a quality bag, it just lasts. Plus… the luxury shopping experience is just so much better. lol

  7. I need that Michael Kors bag in my life! Ahh! Too bad I also need a MacBook too! And this is how impulsive buying starts!

    • Agreed! Whenever I see laptop tote, I just think of a larger tote with more pockets. I don’t have a Macbook either, but I like knowing that I can carry my much cheaper Asus if needed. 🙂

  8. Ohhh I love bags. I love the Tory and I’ve heard great things about Lo & Sons. I am currently carrying a Kate Spade nylon tote to work. I got it on gilt for a steal and it’s super cute with black and white polka dots!

    • I’ve heard great things about Kate Spade, but I don’t own one yet. I feel like I need to wander into a store soon though so I can take a good look around. They have so many different styles!

  9. I have the Longchamp Planetes and I’m obsessed with it. It looks similar to the Pliage but I think it wears better and looks a bit more polished because the fabric is thicker and the handles aren’t contrasting. I’m actually getting another one soon because this is a classic tote that I want in my professional and travel wardrobe forever! A number of my colleagues also swear by the LV Neverfull as their go-to tote if you’re into the LV look.

    • I agree. I love the all black vs the contrasting colors. I don’t know how I missed that one! I would have listed it above for sure! I’ve seen the LV-NF too… but I am still on the fence with that one. I like the LV look, but I cannot commit yet. To the print or the price tag. 🙂
