I met Tina at an event in NYC a little over a year ago. We were seated next to each other and I immediately enjoyed hearing more about her story. I felt like such a newbie at the event, since this was one of the first times that I had ever paid to have a table at an event to sell my coaching services, and she was so “ready to go”. I remember looking over at her table thinking “Sh*t, let me get myself together. I can’t look so nervous when she’s 110% on top of it.”
But her personality was comfortable, yet relatable. I’m so excited to share this interview since Tina is one of those people who practices what she preaches. You can see it in her walk AND talk – and as a fellow entrepreneur, that’s so admirable. There are so many great nuggets of advice in this post! – you may want to grab a pen to take a note or two.

5 YEARS AGO, WHERE DID YOU YOU IMAGINE THAT YOU WOULD BE TODAY?
5 years ago, I imagined I’d be doing the work I love as a coach full time, no longer at my job in advertising and that vision has now become my reality. Of course, there are a few things that haven’t come to fruition, however, even more amazing things have. What’s important to remember is that the path we have outlined for ourselves is not always the one that will get us to our highest potential and highest level of fulfillment.
Five years ago, I imagined I’d be married and living in a huge condo in New York City – this was where I thought I wanted to be and needed to be. Right now, I just moved across the country to Los Angeles and I feeling happier, healthier and more confident than ever. My business is growing more rapidly, I’ve created amazing relationships and for the first time in my life, I’m living from a place of purpose, passion and determination, instead of fear and doubt.
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO KEEPING IT ALL TOGETHER?
There are definitely days where I don’t have it all together and it’s so important for us to honor that and embrace it as part of the process called “life.” There are days when I’m in the flow and days where I feel totally overwhelmed and stuck. In those moments meditation, EFT, getting support and self-care are key for me – and this is the main reason I use all of this in the work I do with my clients. It’s not about never having fear or challenges, but who we become in the face of those fears and challenges.
Meditation and EFT help bring me back to a place of calm, focus and clarity so that I can observe what’s going on and see what decision will serve me and those around me the best. Meditation also enables me to connect with my spirit and source energy, and get into that space unclouded by worry and negative thoughts where I can find the answers and peace I’m searching for. This is extremely healing [for] the mind, body and soul.
Getting support has been extremely important to keeping my sanity in check as well. I used to sit in my anxiety and fears all alone for days and even weeks at a time. These days, I know exactly who I can reach out to in those moments that I need some outside perspective, someone to help lift me back up or just be an ear to speak to.
And lastly, self-care. For whatever reason, the first thing most of us do when we’re feeling terrible is to make ourselves feel even more terrible by giving up the healthy habits we have and resorting to unhealthy habits. Making a commitment to continue embrace my feeling, but also eat foods I love that love my body back, workout and express gratitude for all that I have, almost always immediately raises my vibration to a higher frequency.
WHAT’S YOUR MOST VALUABLE TOOL THAT YOU USE DAILY?
I’d say it’s more of a mindset tool that I learned a few years back when I was going to Buddhism classes. It’s the idea that “it’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it.” The fact is, no matter how much you meditate and how many positive affirmations you say on a daily basis, you can’t control everything that happens in your life. It’s so important to understand that it’s not our experiences, but the lens through which we perceive our experiences that create the life we live in…and that could be one that supports you or one that’s against you. The choice is yours.
WHO’S YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE?
Oh, this question always trips me up, because I can’t attribute the dramatic change to just one person. However, I’d say that there was one experience that influenced me the most and that was about 4 years ago, the day after my best friend’s wedding, when I woke up hungover (yet again) in the hotel room, feeling more depressed, alone and lost than I ever had. My boyfriend at the time and I had a huge argument in the middle of the wedding reception in front of everyone the night before…pushing, screaming, crying. This seemed to be the pattern of my life – unhealthy relationships, unhealthy habits, little to no control over my emotions and a deep lack of self-love. That morning, I felt so lost and helpless that thoughts of taking my own life creeped into my head again.
It was in that moment, I heard this voice tell me that if I wanted my life to change, I’d have to do something different and that started with taking 100% responsibility for my own happiness. That week I began Buddhist Meditation classes and my spiritual journey back to my true self began.
IF SOMEONE WANTED TO DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO, WHAT WOULD YOUR BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE BE?
Do it. Forget about the rules and boundaries that have been created for you by your family, friends, community or society. If your heart is telling you that your purpose is much bigger than who you are allowing yourself to be right now, it’s time to honor that. We often tell ourselves, “It’s not the right time” or “I don’t have the money.”
The time is right when you say it is…simple as that. When you put that energy out there and come out of your comfort one, the Universe will help you figure out the “how.” Your faith in yourself and your dreams must be stronger than your fear of failing. You don’t have to have everything figured out. I spent way too long in relationships, careers and cities that I didn’t want to be in because of this. Playing it safe is dangerous because you miss out on who you are truly meant to be…and when you give yourself the permission to be her, you’ll never look back!
DO YOU STILL GET SCARED SOMETIMES WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE VISION YOU HAVE FOR YOUR LIFE?
Most of the time it’s excitement, but of course there are times I get scared. “Can I do it?” “If I do it, can I handle it?” Fear has it’s place. You can use it to stop you or fuel you. Some fear is good. Some uneasiness is good. I believe it’s in those moments of discomfort that we are growing and something brilliant is about to happen. I was at an event with Mastin Kipp and he said, “on the other side of crisis is always a breakthrough.” Just remember, they are just two sides of the same coin.
Don’t run from your fear. Don’t judge it. Just look at it straight in the face, ask yourself where it’s coming from, how it’s serving you and then see if you can use it to propel you forward instead of hold you back. Or just breathe, bring yourself back to the present moment and you will see there is nothing to fear. We often ask get fearful because of the possibility that things could go wrong. But what if we begin asking ourselves, “What if I went after this and everything worked out in my highest good?”
