Sweat in the City #bowflexnyc Event

On Monday I attended the Sweat In the City event sponsored by Nautilus to promote their brand spankin new product line. The words above were what they used to describe their “innovation package”.

From the newbie to the fitness guru, Nautilus says that their products are for everyone. One of the things I was most I pressed by was their integration of a second screen on their cardio machines. You know how when you are on the average cardio machine and you put your phone, iPad, ect on the little holder and you cover the screen displaying your workout details? Well that doesn’t happen with their machines. They listened to consumers and integrated a second display so you can always see your workout progress.

Motivation

In addition to their cardio machines, they also have free weights that can link to an application giving you workout plans, calories burned, and recommendations to improve your workouts. Since the product line is created with the at-home exerciser in mind, they want everything to be simple, yet effective. The machines also sync with fitness apps like MyFitnessPal to make tracking your calories even easier.
Since I was in my work clothes, I didn’t want to get on too many machines to test them out. BUT I couldn’t help myself when they started showing demonstrations of a new technology that engages more muscles and burns 2X more calories than the average elliptical at most gyms. It makes you climb and pull yourself up vs just having your arms simply follow your legs.

This MAXSystem Elliptical can give you a killer workout in 14 minutes.

Yes, I said 14 minutes. I was on the machine for less than 5 minutes and was out of breath, so I can only imagine what 14 minutes would feel like.

Last but definitely not least, I want to mention Bowflex Boost that was given out as you left the event. For $49.95, half of the FitBit price, you get the same technology. It’s a little bulkier than the FitBit Flex BUT it does exactly the same things.

But there is a major drawback… They have not created an Android compatible application to sync the data as yet. Major womp. It’s 2013, Nautilus! There are a lot more innovative phones out there besides the iPhone! Luckily, I have an iPad, but that’s not nearly as easy to tote around as my phone. I plan on testing it out for a week and hopefully comparing it to the FitBit.

Overall, the event was a lot of fun! And I finally got to meet Brittany from My Own Balance in person. She is such a sweetheart. I would post the picture….but I look super tired. 🙂 Next time I’ll try to pep it up more! I was also with Nellie (my blog sister from another mister), Cassandra, Patty, and Nadia. Anytime I get to hang out with blog friends, I am happy.

Do you own any cardio machines? If so, what brands?

Note: I was not compensated or required to write this review. Nautilus invited me to the event, but there were no social media or blog posting requirements. All opinions are my own.

It was so nice to meet you. I was sold on the 14 minute workout. I don’t have cardio machines at home. My hubby would kill me if I brought anything else that takes up space in the house lol

    • Hahaha. I can relate to that. We are renovating our basement, so I’m hoping to steal a corner for workout stuff when it is done.

It was great meeting you too!

  3. It was so great to meet you too! 🙂 BTW, your phone takes amazing photos! Mine is terrible! Do you like your Android?

    • I LOVE my Android. It has soooo many features and, I agree, I prefer this camera. I can’t stand that some apps aren’t available yet, but I know they will come around if I am patient. lol. Instagram did! If you are in the market for a phone, I would also check out the HTC One. My husband has one, and I love that picture quality even more than my Galaxy S4

This sounds like a lot of fun. You folks up east get in on all the good stuff! I’m interested in that machine that gives a full blown workout in 14 minutes. Would like to see a video of that.

My machines are so old I have no clue what brand they are. I have a Pilates reformer and a treadmill.

    • I am dying to try Pilates on a reformer machine! 🙂

Being close to NYC definitely has its benefits. I am lucky to work in the city now, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to get there on time from my old job in Long Island.
