It’s summer time and the workouts are sweaty. No matter how high the AC is blowing in the gym, I always feel like I sweat more when I workout in the summer. And then when I walk out in the real heat to head home, I still feel like I am working out. You just can’t win in the summer, unless you love that sweaty/sticky/natural glow look.
Summer fun and fitness is NYC has to be functional and flirty at the same time for me. I want to be able to change into workout clothes at work, run an errand on my way to the gym, workout, and then possibly clean up to see a friend or two in the city. I know, I’m doing the most, but I want to make the most of all of the extra hours in the daytime!
With time, I’ve devised the perfect packing strategy to make this all come together. The first step is selecting an outfit that is simple, but can be jazzed up with jewelry or accessories.
The above pictures is what I would change into at work to head to my favorite workout class in NYC. This is normally a dance, pilates, or even just a cardio only gym session at the gym.

My favorite part of this outfit is the pants. Seriously, I haven’t ever found a pair of workout pants that are this comfortable, and also cute enough to wear after the workout and they look dressy. (To be honest, I may even where them to work this week with a dressier top… #dontjudgeme). A classic white tank is a must-have, and the jewelry is subtle and easy to workout in if you find yourself running into a class right before they close the doors.
Now, I love this outfit so much, that I would run to grab a drink right after my workout with my girls, but if I wanted to dress it up a bit, I would need to change into something a bit more fun.
BAM! Excuse me, but this dress had me feeling on top of the world. It looks dressy yet casual for a quick drink in the city. You never know who you will run into. Personally, I am hoping that I will magically run into Terrance J…but I digress. I was able to literally roll this into my tote and put it on without needing an iron. I added a simple statement necklace, comfortable heels, and I was ready to go.

If you are thinking that walking through the city in heels isn’t your thing, I also recommend the Lucky Brand Emmie Flats. I wear these everywhere, and they easily fit into almost any size bag. They come in a bunch of colors and they are actually 15% off right now at Macys!
All in one simple tote, I can go from work, to the gym, to a night out with friends. Easy, peasy. I already see myself packing these exact outfits for my trip to San Jose, CA for the BlogHer conference in 2 weeks. Unlike FitBloggin, I’ll be building in my own workouts into the hectic schedule to stay on top of my bikini prep (update soon!).
A special shoutout to Athleta for providing me with a few items from their store for this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
How do you pack for various after work activities?
