My Life 6.26 and Blogging While Brown 2013 Recaps

On The Border

Yes, it’s Wednesday. And yes, I am recapping my week. Apparently I already started celebrating last night with my husband when we went to On The Border for dinner. (see pictures above… the watermelon margarita was soooo good.)

I am leaving for FitBloggin tomorrow afternoon, so I wanted to check in. I also wanted to prove to myself that I can allow myself to “blog freely” and not get so caught up in what I am supposed to do, what I am supposed to write about, or when I am supposed to write about something. Do you ever feel like that? I feel like that is part of the reason that I decided to start this blog and leave my old site for good. I want to be myself and show who I am instead of creating a “perfect” online presence.  I also wanted to talk about the experience I had at Blogging While Brown this past weekend.

Career// Do you ever feel like you need to do something different? That’s how I am feeling. I haven’t heard back from my dream job, and didn’t really expect to yet. But I am trying to come up with a strategy in case I don’t get the position. If I don’t get it, I don’t believe that it speaks to me being qualified…it speaks more to the level of competition for this job. Most of the existing staff also have an ivy league background, which I definitely do not have. Knowing that my goals are to reach a certain level of prestige in my career, I know that I may need to start planning an alternate strategy to get to a higher level in my career.

Love// To all the married readers, do you ever have a moment where you look at your spouse and say “Wow, I really love your behind. Like I really do. Even when you snore in my ears, don’t fold my laundry the way I like it, or even when you come home before me and don’t start dinner. I love you.” 🙂 I’m feeling very lovey dovey lately.

Health// So I have been having digestive issues for quite some time, and yesterday I went back to the doctor about it. I am a little self-conscious about talking about this, but in short…I really wasn’t given a solid, long lasting solution besides taking medication. I refuse to believe that I must feel like this on a regular basis, so I am going to try something on my own. I’ve read so many books, and heard so many stories about people cleaning up their diet and fixing their life, so I want to give it a go. I cannot take using any more medications to get my digestive system back on track. It’s literally becoming painful. Let’s see what happens. Starting today, I’ve completely eliminated processed foods, and will most likely eliminate dairy and gluten too if I don’t feel any better in the next 2 weeks.

#BWBNYC// Last week I attended Blogging While Brown and I had a blast. I was planning on writing a full recap like I did for #140You, but I thought that it may be a great idea to take this opportunity to highlight some other bloggers who also attended. I met so many beautiful people and there was so much talk about community, so I’ll try to lead by example and share the recaps here instead of writing my own. My only thoughts are that I cannot wait until the next conference in 2014! I plan on being there come rain or come shine.

  1. Thanks for the mention! You will feel sooo much better after giving up dairy and gluten. I lost 28 pounds and cleared up my digestive issues after going gluten free. Now I also limit dairy to about once a month or so and I see a huge difference in how I feel as far as my joints and bloating. I’d be glad to talk with you about that (dietitian here). Sorry I didn’t connect with you at the conference, but let’s stay in touch. I’m in northern Cal if you ever come this way. Oh, and here is my blog post.

    As for career, if we’re talking about being a career student, I definitely saw a need to change that. LOL! The plan was to get my BS and then get my MS which is what I’m doing but I didn’t plan on being in school for more than 7 years. But, here I am. And it all worked out. And while I decided that I will not be a career student, that changed as of last Wednesday and I couldn’t be more overjoyed about it.

    I wanted to go to this conference but by the time I found out about it, it was too late and not within my means. But, I’ll most definitely see you next year. I’m sure of that.

    Being yourself is always the best way to be on a blog! I have those lovey dovey days too. I also have days where I look at him and wonder why the heck he is still in my hair. Thankfully those days are less. 🙂

      Being myself online is so hard sometimes. I am working on allowing myself to be more candid and admit that life isn’t perfect.

    It’s great to have the autonomy to be flexible and not always going by the script. Diet can certainly affect your digestion. Have you tried adding a probiotic to your diet? Enjoy yourself at Fitbloggin. Can’t wait to hear the recap.

    Do you take Probiotics? I’ve had stomach issues for years (and hate talking to my DR or really anyone about it) – I just started taking probiotics in March or April and already feel much better!!!

      I took Probiotics once in combination with a medication to help with stomach upset, but never thought to try it now. Thanks for the suggestion.
